Area
Nine Elms is that changing piece of London between Vauxhall and Battersea. It’s 561 acres (227 hectares) and is walking distance to the Houses of Parliament, Sloane Square, Tate Britain, Battersea Park and The Kia Oval cricket ground. It is by far the largest regeneration zone in central London and includes the last remaining industrial stretch of the South Bank. The district extends from Lambeth Bridge in the north, to Chelsea Bridge in the south, covering the Albert Embankment, Vauxhall and a large slice of north Battersea. Westminster lies directly opposite on the north bank of the Thames.
Transport
The Northern line extension (NLE) from Kennington will provide the fast, high capacity transport link needed to support a major increase in the number of residents and businesses based in Nine Elms on the South Bank. It will provide two new tube stops within the area – one will be located at Nine Elms on Wandsworth Road and another at Battersea Power Station. The stations are set to open by 2020 and will improve access to and from The City, the West End and other major residential and employment centres.
A new Thames Bridge is currently being designed. It will connect Nine Elms and Pimlico and meet the needs of both pedestrians and cyclists.
Living Here
Nine Elms is adding 20,000 new homes to the 10,000 existing households there. The opening of the new US and Dutch embassies and the relocation of Apple’s UK headquarters will contribute to the 25,000 new jobs being created in the Nine Elms regeneration area. It will offer life changing opportunities to the area’s existing residents and will become home to another 30,000 people.
Nine Elm’s vast areas of brownfield land are now being transformed into new open space with an abundance of parks and gardens. There’s parks, public squares, footpaths, cycle lanes, sports pitches, outdoor shopping areas and a variety of outdoor recreation spaces all integrated into one amazing network. Living, working and visiting here is and will be truly amazing.
